unsatisfactory

A landscape that I was putting some time into but didn't turn out how I had hoped.

  1. I am not sure what your goal was, but looking at it, I see a lot that is very strong. I love the subtle backlight on the hills that washes out their local color and value. The thin strip of sunlit meadow at the horizon is a nice focal point, and the this washes of grass are really working for me.

  2. Are you going to contiue to work on it?

  3. I would either add something in the forground or crop the whole thing so you have very little of the empty grass area in the foreground showing. The mountains look very good to me.

  4. I do hope you didn't really give up on it. You have a very nice painting going here. As a landscape study it stands on its own. Don't know what you had in mind to begin with but you are definitely too hard on yourself.
Nice blog. Very interesting and some great art here.

  5. I'm actually glad to see someone post a piece that they're not completely happy with. Sounds like you're human. Fight the good fight.

  6. I grew up near the badlands of western SD so for me, your "unsatisfactory" painting seemed perfectly complete. Where I grew up the land is never finished, which in my mind makes your landscape painting perfect.
