my new secretary

I have a new ombudsman to deal with the substantial load of criticism coming into my website. He may be a little abrasive but he is eager to solve your problem. Please overlook his rough edges and give him a warm welcome.
I was playing around with a different brush. A little tricky working with edges but forced the more general abstract handling.

  1. Yeah, welcome ombi! You have wonderfully muted colors, but look a bit like out of the fourties. I am quite scared about what might be at his right side, still unrevealed in the picture. Probably, to deal with bad crit. (a gun? his minions?) :-)

  3. Dave:

I suspect that your self-criticism is common in almost all good artists, its just that alot of people aren't as confident and open about expressing it as you are. I would say that this is a positive thing, wouldn't you? Just remember, there will always be somebody less skilled and talented as you are, and there will always be somebody more skilled and talented than you are, but there will never be anyone who can create what you uniquely can. Don't let the self-critical inner dialogue turn into destructive overblown negativity that will stop you from painting and drawing. That is fear of failure, and alot of artists give in to it and quit. The "perfect" is the enemy of the good.

  4. Dave - the only problem I have with you is that you and your wife live hundreds of miles away. I'd love to spend artist time with you both. Bob was right on with what he said. We are all that way. If only we could turn it off and let ourselves go. If anything you are one of my muses.

  5. Dave, I'm loving it, man! Another great piece. You do a phenomenal job expressing form with just a minimum number of strokes.

BTW, do you have an exclusive with this hombre, or can I solicit his services? ;o)

  6. Thanks Bob, luckily I don't have control over stopping the creation of art. I'll keep at it whether I want to or not.
    Tina, I appreciate it.

Ha, thanks Lash good to hear from you again.
Funny you ask, I just sent this guy your contact info for cases when he needs some muscle.

  7. Not sure what you're talking about, but that's OK, the painting says enough . . . very cool!

  8. Hi, I really love your work, I think you are a great artist. I copied your previous post for study purpose and if you don't mind I was wondering why did you choose to do the ears of the vampire not with the same perspective of the rest of the face?

  9. Eldar,
I am a big fan of your work as well. I have no good answer for your question. I just drew the ears without thinking too much about it. I guess it makes him look goofy and the face seems to have a number of screwy perspectives to start with anyway. I just now tried different alternatives they all work equally well in my opinion.

  10. I like the movement and natural light.
A bit the school of the Hague 1920-'30 ties in Holland.
    Well done!
