I guess I previewed this one early by putting it up on my website, but this is my newest oil painting. This was done from a photo I took when I visited
Burt Silverman at his New York studio.
My wife interned with him so I have connections, but he is a great guy and obviously a master artist. If you look close you can see he's got his artwork hanging all around his studio, some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever seen. It's 14"x18" oil on board.
Dave you simply astound me!! Your palette is amazing as is your eye!
ReplyDeleteI would love to paint like you.. any suggestions or just practice, practice, practice.
I'm a watercolor, acrylics guy but I'd love to delve into oil. I hear it's much harder?
David there is something just plain right about this painting! Frankly all your work amazes me - but this painting has a real elegance - I feel like I'm there!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. Adrian, I think a lot of drawing is the most important part. I would recomend doing a couple black and white oil paintings to figure out the brush work and the feeling of the paint. It is hard but imo nothings nicer then a finished oil painting.
ReplyDeletethanks a lot Tim.
Wow!!! This is awesome Dave! Nice work. You must be a lot cooler than I thought if you get to hang out with ol' Burt.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. That floor freaks me out! And his workshop was one of the best I've been to. Just seeing the man paint is crazy.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work,it's vivid.
ReplyDeleteWow. All I can say is wow.
ReplyDeleteFeels funny to say but the light on the wood flooring might be my favorite part. Maybe I just like shiny things.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, great stuff dave.
Master work, you are a classic, really.
ReplyDeleteDave dude, I though this was a photo before I read the bottom. This is really an amazing painting.

ReplyDeleteReally nice work Dave, I am always inspired by the pieces you do. Nice Job. I think he had a portrait of his son hanging at the MOA @ BYU back in the olden days when we were in school. It was my very favorite.
